This remarkable specimen is pyrite on quartz. This particular piece has several sparkling, rainbow pyrite cubes, a few Galena chunks and crisp, clear Quartz points of various sizes.
The mineral pyrite, also known as fool's gold, is an iron sulfide. The metallic luster and pale brass-yellow hue give it a superficial resemblance to gold.
Quartz is a hard, crystalline mineral composed of silica. Quartz is often clear or milky, but variations of color may appear depending on what impurities are present.
Galena is lead ore with a grey to black metallic appearance.
